Ezra Pound era un grande poeta. Meglio: un grande poeta fascista. Forse gli scrittori e gli intellettuali che hanno firmato una lettera di solidarietà alla figlia di Pound in lotta contro l’«appropriazione indebita» da parte di Casa-Pound pensano invece che un grande poeta non possa essere un grande poeta fascista. Dicono infatti di essere «sdegnati» per l’«uso improprio» che l’estrema destra farebbe del «valore universale della poesia» di Pound. Perché, le poesie di un grande poeta fascista, nel caso fossero grandi poesie belle ed emozionanti, non possono avere un «valore universale»? Dicono anche con una certa imprudenza interpretativa, i Belpoliti e i Cucchi, i Magrelli e i Guglielmi, i Ghezzi e i Balestrini e gli altri firmatari dell’appello, che l’estrema destra che si appropria del nome di Pound sarebbe lontana «dall’universo culturale» del grande poeta (fascista). «Lontano» in che senso? |

Skillfully blending intellectual, political, and cultural history, Jan-Werner Müller elucidates the ideas that shaped the period of ideological extremes before 1945 and the liberalization of West European politics after the Second World War. He also offers vivid portraits of famous as well as unjustly forgotten political thinkers and the movements and institutions they inspired. Müller pays particular attention to ideas advanced to justify fascism and how they relate to the special kind of liberal democracy that was created in postwar Western Europe. He also explains the impact of the 1960s and neoliberalism, ending with a critical assessment of today's self-consciously post-ideological age. |
